Behavioral healthcare professionals diagnose and treat mental health and stress-related issues including depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, eating disorders, and many others. The 32BJ Health Fund offers you easier and greater access to behavioral healthcare services—in person or online—than ever before.
Where do I start?
It depends on what type of behavioral healthcare professional you want to see. There are two types of behavioral healthcare professionals: a therapist and a psychiatrist.
Therapist: A therapist is a licensed behavioral healthcare professional who provides counseling to help relieve mental health and related problems faced by individuals, couples, and families. There are many types of therapists, including psychologists, social workers, marriage counselors, chemical dependency counselors, and more.
Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who is trained to diagnose mental health disorders, including complex diseases that may be related to our physical health. A psychiatrist can prescribe medication or other types of management to treat mental health diseases.
If you are not sure, you may want to start with a therapist, who can refer you to a psychiatrist if necessary.
More in-person and online care
You pay the same copay whether you see an in-network behavioral healthcare professional in person or online. Your copay is based on the health plan you have. You can find in-network behavioral healthcare professionals on the 32BJ Member Portal, where you can:
- Search by specialty like addiction medicine, child psychiatry, marriage and family therapy, and many others
- See what your copay is before you make an appointment
Online services with in-network therapists and psychiatrists
If you are comfortable seeing a therapist or a psychiatrist for an online appointment, you may want to consider the following services.
Important: Some of these services are not available in every state. Online services may charge fees that are higher than your copay for missed appointments or late cancellations. Be sure to ask about their policy when you schedule your appointment.
